5 Q & A’s about Personal Training
When will I see results?
By fully following the recommendations alongside with completing a minimum of 3 sessions per week (not necessarily all with a PT), you will begin to see results within the first few weeks. As to how much will depend upon various factors under your control alongside the help and instruction from me as your personal trainer and nutritional advisor.
How long will it take for me to reach my goals?
That is not an easy question to answer as it will depend upon two main factors. Where you are now and where you want to get to. Consistency is the key to reach your final goal, which will come in time. Generally for weight/fat loss it is recommended that you should not try to lose much more than 2lbs/week. Therefore in 10 weeks you could aim to lose 20lbs. However this is just a weight issue rather than purely a fat loss issue so in many cases due to you gaining extra muscle the actually weight may not drop to that degree but you may still be toning up and losing fat. The best indication is the mirror and the fit of your clothes.
Will I put on loads of muscle if you train me?
Yes and no.
Yes- Firstly if that is what you want then alongside the correct nutrition you could see a significant amount of muscle gain over a given period of time. This will take some effort and will require strict training with a combination of heavy/medium weights with a repartition range of up to 12 reps per set.
No – When training people to get toned and lose fat the rep range is increased (mostly 15+/set). The weights are reduced and the rest periods are shorter. There are various techniques used in order to achieve the best results. And YES you will gain some muscle but this will not be huge bulky muscle rather a toned look, which will re-shape your body. You will NEVER get BIG using light weights for the suggested rep range.
As a rule – Women will not gain huge muscle mass due to the lack of that level of testosterone in their bodies.
Remember – muscle is very important for many reasons but for the case of weight loss it is important to know that if you have more muscle mass you will be burning more calories even at rest due to the extra calorific demand from muscle.
There are many ways to train for various outcomes and I have trained many different people throughout the years with varying goals. All clients will be trained for their own personal requirements. One size does not fit all.
Is there anything I have to do as your client?
Well yes. Firstly show up for every session and keep the consistency. If you booked a block of 10 sessions but this took you 3 months to complete then you will possibly not see as much improvement as you may have hoped for. You also have to fully follow my instruction as regards your eating habits. Your goals can not be achieved with training only. There has to be a full commitment to ‘YOUR’ cause. You must make the most of ‘YOUR’ money spent. Make no mistake – ‘WE’ are after the results.
What are you credentials – why should I choose you as my trainer?
Well good question – even if I do ask so myself.
Well I strongly believe that there are certain professions where you do not only have to know your stuff but you also need to look like you implement your stuff on yourself. You may not necessarily want to look like me and therefore may not believe I will get you to your goals.
It’s true – I’m a competitive bodybuilder so what do I know about for example, getting women to lose fat? The main aim for a bodybuilder when going into competition is to lose as much ‘FAT’ as possible (not just weight) whilst trying to keep as much muscle as possible. They are some of our main concerns. I have achieved this on a number of occasions having won a number of regional bodybuilding shows and also having competed at the highest national level on the UKBFF British stage. The proof is definitely in this pudding.
I could talk about my over 20 years of experience as a personal trainer and a competitive bodybuilder. Or I could talk about my past as one of the UK Gladiators as ‘Destroyer’ on Sky1 or even my training shows which can be seen on The Active Channel Sky 281. All this and other personal details can be seen at my websites www.damarmartin.com and www.fitnutrition.co.uk) but I think it’s more important to talk about results from clients.
Over my considerable amount of years of training and also training others I alongside my clients have made gains (or losses) towards our goals. With my no nonsense approach I make you feel like you are ready to hit those heights you’ve always dreamt of. My sessions are about motivation, encouragement and instructional information and ideas both in exercise and nutrition. The ability to adapt what a person is doing to best suit their needs is one of the most important skills for a personal trainer to have and is often used in a training session.
With my knowledge in nutrition, which I have personally implemented for bodybuilding competitions, you will not just be on the fast track but also the steady track to success. Regular dieting methods do not work for the long term. Sensible eating habits do.
Phew – I’m glad I asked that.
These are a selection of some of the questions I am asked almost every day. Hopefully that will give you an idea of what I do and what is expected from my clients and the relationship between us.
I aim to make each training session as enjoyable and productive as possible so with your help we will get you to your final goal.
